Setting Up & Using Budgeting Tools

  1. Stay on top of your monthly spending with these easy-to-use budgeting tools.

    In the demo, you'll learn how to:

    • Categorize your transactions for budget tracking
    • Create a new budget for your categorized transactions
    • Search your transactions
    • Track your categorized transactions within your budget
  2. How to categorize your transactions for budget tracking.

  3. Assigning categories to your transactions enables you to track them within a budget. To get started, select an account under “My Accounts” on the “Dashboard”.
  4. From the Account “Transactions” screen, click “Add a category” under the transaction you want to edit. Some transactions may have automatically been assigned to a category.
  5. Select the category you want the transaction to appear under within your budget. If you want to edit or add your own categories, click “Manage” at the bottom of the list.
  6. From “Manage Categories” you can “add category” or edit and delete existing ones.

    TIP: You can make categories “DISCRETIONARY” if they’re for expenses that are optional, like entertainment.
  7. The category will now be assigned to the transaction, allowing you to easily track it within your budget.
  8. How to create a new budget for your categorized transactions.

  9. To get started, select the “BUDGETING TOOLS” Widget from the “MORE…” menu in the left navigation.
  10. Enter a name for your budget. Select account(s) that have transactions matching the budget categories you want to track (Food & Dining, for example).
  11. Next, add categories and/or sub-categories for “Expenses” and “Income”. Transactions assigned to the categories you choose here will be tracked as part of your budget.
  12. Enter a dollar “AMOUNT” for each of your “Expenses” based upon the maximum amount you want to spend. Add your “Income” dollars, as well. When you’re done, click the “Create Budget” button.
  13. You’ll receive a confirmation that your budget has been created. Now you can start tracking your “Total Budget Progress” month-by-month. This will show how your actual expenses and income compare to your budget.
  14. How to search your transactions.

  15. Select the “Transactions” tab on the “Budgeting Tools” screen.
  16. Click on “Show Search” and open the search panel. You can search your transactions by a variety of options, such as “Category” and/or “Date”. Enter your criteria and click the “Search” button.
  17. Your search results will appear. To narrow your search, enter more specific criteria. To broaden your search, enter less specific criteria.
  18. How to track your categorized transactions within your budget.

  19. View your spending for categorized transactions compared to your budgeted amounts by clicking the “Spending” tab. To change the dates for included transactions, use the “One Month” and “Range” adjustments.
  20. To see your income, click the “Income” tab. Your actual dollar amounts for categorized deposits and transfers are shown and compared to your budgeted amounts.
